African Potential: Strategic Development and Management

African Potential: Strategic Development and Management programme is designed for those committed to tackling the emerging challenges on the African continent. With a multidisciplinary and practical approach, the Executive Master programme equips participants with the skills to implement and effectively engage in development strategies across public, private, and civic sectors in Africa.

The programme prepares professionals to lead and implement transformative projects that shape the Africa of tomorrow. It draws on a robust curriculum that includes the sociology of organised action, political science, international relations, economics, and management sciences. These disciplines provide a comprehensive analytical framework to address the nuances of African public policies.

The programme is enriched with insights from leading figures, experts, and practitioners who have spearheaded major reforms in public organisations in both France and African nations, further enhancing the academic rigour provided by Sciences Po and its research centres.

This programme will be held in French. Find more information on this page: Executive Master Politiques et management du développement - Potentiel Afrique

Programme

The programme is organised into four teaching units, each delivered over four 10-day sessions (one session per month). Several masterclass conferences led by experts are also held throughout the programme.

  • Objective: Investigate institutional practices, governance, and socio-economic realities in Africa, particularly in the countries represented by the cohort, to enhance understanding of the development policy challenges faced by the continent.
  • Objective: Deepen understanding of the diverse strategic approaches and familiarise participants with key tools used in both public and private sectors to find common ground and shared language between the sectors.
  • Objective: Equip participants with statistical tools for the analysis of public policies, enhancing their capabilities in identifying issues, diagnosing problems, and formulating solutions. Raise awareness of the basic principles of graphical semiotics. Develop analytical skills and provide the methodologies needed to write and defend the Master's thesis.
  • Objective: Offer essential insights for any decision-maker tasked with managing teams, leading change, or implementing innovation. Enable participants to refine their leadership stance and improve their written and oral communication to maximise their influence in international project leadership and negotiations.
