In spring 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic hit Europe. Initially Germany did very well thanks to its epidemiological crisis management, in comparison with several of its European neighbors, France included. But, during the so-called second wave of the pandemic, while the situation was getting better in France, the number of Covid-19 cases (infections and deaths) was increasing in Germany so much, so that by the third wave, both countries faced similar epidemiological challenges.

15 months after Covid-19 patient 0 in France and Germany, respectively on 25th and 28th January 2020, we are still facing and challenging the pandemic. What went wrong? What are the current challenges? What about the “Covid-0-Strategy“ or how can we do better?

German and French epidemiologists and the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Evaluation of Public Policies (LIEPP), on behalf of the Alfred Grosser-Program of Sciences Po, will present and try to answer these questions from an epidemiological perspective, so that the EU and its Member States can learn for the future.

Chaired by Aissa Halidou, Professor for Health Policy and Global Health for the Alfred Grosser Chair of Sciences Po and research associate at the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Evaluation of public policies (LIEPP).
