Certification in Gender Studies 2024: Graduate Testimonials
Every year, Sciences Po’s Gender Studies Programme, grants an Advanced Certification in Gender Studies to students who acquired demonstrable academic expertise within the field of gender studies. In 2024, 63 students obtained their master’s degree with the Advanced Certification. Some of them share their education highlights and career aspirations.
Dominique Mickiewicz, master's graduate in International Security
I recognised I was entering a historically male-dominated field and strived to the harness tools offered by Sciences Po to tailor my coursework to include marginalised perspectives and to forge connections with gender specialists, both peers and professors.
Venus Aves, master's graduate in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action
Before arriving at Sciences Po, I had never taken any course on gender. However, through my lived experience as a trans woman and my practical engagements as a queer organiser, I was already immersed in struggles to better understand and confront patriarchy. With this background, I also wanted to approach gender from a multidisciplinary lens and critically tackle it with academic rigour.
Rishwa Shekhar, master's graduate in International Governance and Diplomacy
Gender equality transcends the confines of any single field. Its intersectional nature influences all actions, policies, and practices. As a future leader, I believe it is crucial to understand these dynamics to apply them effectively in real life.
İlayda Habip, master's graduate in Journalism and International Affairs
As a Journalism student, while I was doing reporting in the field, covering the French pension reform protests or French law and its treatment of rape cases, were the times I truly felt I was both understanding a whole new culture and getting to know the feminist movements here.
Tiffany Hales, master's graduate in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action
Sciences Po’s Gender Studies Programme offered the best of both worlds: the opportunity to obtain a graduate certification in gender studies, whilst also completing a more generalist master's programme.
Katarina Körner, master's graduate in International Economic Policy
For me, one of the best things about the time at Sciences Po was that I never had the feeling that I was working on duties but rather, that all my course assignments gave the possibility to dive into new, interesting, inspiring topics.
Ana Paula Ríos Camarena Suárez del Real, master's graduate in International Governance and Diplomacy
I have always considered myself a feminist, and I wanted to bring my engagement to the feminist cause to my academic background.
Carolina Bergstein, master's graduate in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action
During my internship I am already applying what I have learned in my gender courses and seeing how it is done in practice. After my internship, I will move back to Brazil and intend to work for women's rights protection from there.
