Meet the Graduates 2024: Rishwa Shekhar

Recent graduate Rishwa Shekhar.

Rishwa Shekhar is a recent graduate from Sciences Po’s master in International Governance and Diplomacy and an Advanced Certification in Gender Studies awardee. She tells us more about her time at Sciences Po, in Paris.

Why did you choose to pursue the Advanced Certification in Gender Studies in addition to your master's Programme?

I chose to pursue this Advanced Certification alongside my master in International Governance and Diplomacy because gender equality transcends the confines of any single field. Its intersectional nature influences all actions, policies, and practices. As a future leader, I believe it is crucial to understand these dynamics to apply them effectively in real life. This knowledge will enable me to foster inclusivity, contribute to impactful change, and support sustainable development. Understanding gender issues deeply equips me to advocate for a more equitable society and ensures that my professional endeavours are grounded in principles of fairness and equality.

Were you particularly marked by any specific course?

I am grateful to all my professors in this journey, but I was particularly moved by the "Gender, Economies, and Societies" class taught by Professor Hélène Périvier. This course opened my eyes to a wealth of data and facts, highlighting how society is failing in terms of gender equality. It reinforced my belief that only through evidence-based policy making can we truly advance gender equality. The insights gained from this class have profoundly shaped my understanding and commitment to fostering a more equitable society.

Is there any advice you would give to future graduates?

Each individual is truly unique, and respecting yourself and those around you for who they are is the essence of advancing gender equality.
