Teaching international relations through arts: some lessons learned
The “aesthetic turn” is not restricted to an epistemological project (to think about international relations anew) nor to a new empirical dimension (to describe under-studied objects in the discipline); it also provides us with some teaching tools. This article draws upon the experiences in several international relations classes within the Doctoral School and the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po to go beyond the illustrative function of aesthetics in pedagogy. Teaching through arts is helpful for exploring the sensitive dimensions in the field and international changes in strategy and diplomacy. This article takes into account some works made by students and what these suggest about using refreshing practices to improve student skills and knowledge.
