'The Institute for Environmental Transformations aims to contribute to the public debate through a new policy of training and research, dissemination and exploitation of knowledge. It expresses our threefold ambition: to meet the aspirations of new generations, to understand our times and the world, and to help transform our students' convictions into action’

Climate change and the degradation of natural resources are some of the greatest challenges facing contemporary societies and their governments. This urgent moment calls for an in-depth overhaul of growth models, lifestyles and consumption patterns, and political and legal systems, which will require unprecedented individual and collective mobilization.

Building on its 15 years of experience in examining these challenges, Sciences Po, with the creation of the Institute for Environmental Transformations, has chosen to place environmental transformations at the heart of its strategic plan.

The Institute, created as part of the TIERED project, coordinates all of Sciences Po's actions in the field of environmental transformations. Its objectives are to:

  • Strenghten the existing teaching offer and provide all students, no matter their specialization, with training on these issues,
  • Become Europe's leading research university in the human and social sciences research university in Europe.
  • Contribute to a new policy of knowledge dissemination and transformation,
  • Accelerate collaboration with other scientific disciplines beyond the social sciences and humanities,
  • Promote Sciences Po's unique position by giving visibility and coherence to existing initiatives and programs, both in France and internationally,
  • Leverage these actions to multiply and perpetuate their impact..

The Institute for Environmental Transformations is developing the following activities through its collaborations in France and abroad:

  • structuring research initiatives with partners,
  • developing the teaching offer, including through double degrees,
  • recruiting lecturers, visiting professors, post-doctoral students,
  • sharing our knowledge with the non-academic community,
  • participating in major networks (Alliance U7+, GAUC, CIVICA) to raise the profile of our university in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
