Call for Applications for Visiting Faculty in Environmental Research

Visiting Faculty Stay at Sciences Po, Paris.

Application deadline: November 7, 2024.

Sciences Po is calling for applications for visiting faculty from around the world, in collaboration with Université Paris Cité. Applications are open for 1-semester stays planned in the 2025 Spring Semester, the 2025 Fall Semester and the 2026 Spring Semester.

Sciences Po is an international research university, ranking among the finest institutions in the fields of humanities and social sciences. In the Spring 2025 (2024-2025 academic year), Fall 2025 (2025-26 academic year), and Spring 2026 (2025-26 academic year), Sciences Po will open three visiting faculty positions for up to a semester (13-weeks minimum).

This Visiting Stay aims at fostering interdisciplinary opportunities in environmental research, encouraging the development of new partnerships for collaborative research, as well as facilitating the mobility of English-speaking and French-speaking researchers towards France. Research proposals focusing on one of the following themes will be particularly welcome:

  • Environmental inequalities
  • Health, environment and climate
  • Science and Politics
  • Political economy of the sea

At Sciences Po, the Institute for Environmental Transformations, which was created as part of the ExcellenceS TIERED project, coordinates and gives visibility to environmental research activities. Research activities are organised through the Interdisciplinary Environmental Research Workshop (AIRE), a cross-cutting programme bringing together researchers from all disciplinary research units. Research in the field of exact sciences is carried out in collaboration with Université Paris Cité, especially through the LIEPP's environmental policy unit.

The visiting faculty will be hosted in one of the Science Po research units (an exhaustive list can be found here), and will benefit from the dynamic of the researchers with diverse disciplinary backgrounds specialised in environmental research through the Institute for environmental transformations at Sciences Po and Université Paris Cité.

The Visiting programme is open to academics at any career stage and in any discipline. We encourage researchers from all around the globe, especially women, to apply.

CONDITIONS

Visiting faculty will receive an overall monthly stipend of 4.000 euros (before taxes).

Visiting faculty are expected to teach one full course with an environmental lens (12 x 2 hour sessions) over the semester. They are also expected to contribute actively to the research community they will join, and to deliver at least one Public Lecture (for both Sciences Po and Université Paris Cité students) during their stay.

Visiting faculty will be given access to an office space on campus, in the heart of Paris, to the Sciences Po library and other University facilities and to the research activity and events programme driven by the research unit they will be hosted in.

The stay is to be scheduled between January 2025 and May/June 2025, between August/September 2025 and December 2025, or between January 2026 and May/June 2026.

Sciences Po is a bilingual university (English and French), French is therefore not required for this position but speaking one of the two languages is essential.
