Erasmus+ Programme
The following information applies to you if:
- You are in the second year of a Bachelor’s degree and you are preparing to begin a (credited) exchange for your third year abroad.
- You are doing a Master’s and you will be spending a minimum of two months abroad studying or doing a credited internship as part of your programme.
The Erasmus+ grant at Sciences Po
The Erasmus+ programme is a key part of Sciences Po’s international policy, facilitating student mobility and collaboration between universities. Sciences Po has 170 active university partnerships supporting student mobility across Europe. Every year, as part of the programme, several hundred students from all over Europe come to spend a semester or a year on exchange at Sciences Po, and 550 Sciences Po students study abroad in a European country.
Eligibility Criteria
The Erasmus+ grant is not means-tested. All students are eligible for this financial support, and will receive a fixed grant per month. Students of all nationalities can take part in the Erasmus+ programme, as long as they are enrolled in a Sciences Po degree programme and will be going on a compulsory and credited exchange. Study abroad as part of a gap year is not eligible.
Grant Amount
The Erasmus+ grant amount varies from year to year, depending on the budget allocated to Sciences Po by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, and on the number of people on exchange within Europe.

Please note
A monthly inclusion supplement of €250 may be available to disadvantaged students, depending on the budget allocated by the European Commission. This top-up payment is aimed at:
- Students with a disability or long-term condition (ALD);
- Recipients of the CROUS scholarship, who meet welfare criteria 6 or 7;
- Students from a household with a CAF family allowance of €551 or less.
A contribution to standard travel expenses will be paid in addition to the Erasmus scholarship on a flat rate basis. People using transport with lower carbon footprint (bus, train, carpooling) to travel to the country of the university or host organization will be able to benefit, upon presentation of proof, from the eco-responsible transport mode package:

Note: Grants are paid on a flat rate basis, without means testing, and are divided equally according to the number of eligible beneficiaries. The amount each student receives will depend on how long they are granted funding for, and will be based on a particular fixed rate applied to each destination country. Nonetheless Sciences Po guarantees that each grant will be equivalent to at least two months of study or of an internship.

- The 27 EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
- Three in the European Economic Area: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (not including Switzerland)
- Three EU candidate countries: North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey
Obtaining the grant
There is no application process. The Erasmus+ Office will contact students going on exchange within the Erasmus area. In their first email, the office will share an Online Learning Agreement (OLA), which enables students going on exchange to enter their course selection on a European Commission digital platform. Students will then receive a pack of administrative documents in early autumn. If you are planning to study in Europe during the next academic year and you have not received any message from the Erasmus office by the end of October, contact us by email.
Students with a disability may be eligible for additional funding for their exchange in Europe. For more information, contact our Erasmus+ office now.
Applications for Erasmus+ internship grants will not be considered until Sciences Po has received an internship agreement (convention de stage) indicating the exact dates of the internship, signed by the student, Sciences Po and the host organisation.

Please note that internships are only eligible for Erasmus funding if they are a compulsory part of your curriculum and count towards your degree. Internships as part of a gap year will not qualify for an Erasmus grant.
- Undergraduate (hybrid years): if you are doing a hybrid year with a semester of study followed by an internship in Europe, please send us your internship agreement signed by all parties to: erasmus.plus@sciencespo.fr.
- Master’s: if you are doing a compulsory Master’s-level internship in Europe, please send us your internship agreement signed by all parties to: erasmus.plus@sciencespo.fr.

Payment process
The Erasmus+ grant is paid to eligible recipients in two instalments over the course of their Erasmus year, as follows:
- 80% of the total amount of the grant is paid once the Erasmus+ Office has received your arrival certificate, online learning agreement and mobility agreement.
- The remaining 20% of the grant is paid once the full Erasmus+ administrative pack is complete and includes all documents required by the European Commission. This final payment is also conditional on completing the Erasmus+ questionnaire (which you will receive automatically by email at the end of your time abroad), online via the European Commission platform. You must also submit a certificate of attendance, signed by the partner organisation, confirming the duration of your exchange. The final instalment cannot be paid until this certificate of attendance is received.
Under the heading “Your obligations as a grant recipient”, you will find all of the documents you need to provide or complete, as well as the steps you need to follow to access your grant. It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with these steps.
We strongly recommend that each person doing an exchange or internship in Europe plans ahead by having at least one month of funds to cover travel expenses and the costs of setting up when they arrive.

Your obligations as a grand recipient
As an Erasmus+ grant recipient, you are entitled to financial aid which is calculated based on your destination country and the duration of your exchange. However, payment of the Erasmus+ grant is conditional on you fulfilling certain obligations.
The following steps are essential to ensure your Erasmus+ exchange runs smoothly:
- The certificate of arrival must be completed and signed as soon as you arrive at your host university. This document confirms your arrival date, and constitutes proof that your exchange has begun. We cannot pay the first instalment of your Erasmus+ grant until you return your certificate of arrival, completed and signed.
- For Master’s students, a credit transfer eligibility certificate is required for your study abroad to be taken into account. It must be completed and signed by the coordinator of your Master’s programme, and returned to us at the same time as the other documents. Your Erasmus exchange cannot be taken into account without this certificate. Study abroad as part of a gap year is not eligible.
- The Erasmus+ mobility agreement, estimating the duration of your stay (based on the average length of a semester in the particular country) and the amount of your grant, must be completed, signed and returned to us. It will be sent to you at the beginning of your exchange at the earliest. We cannot pay the first instalment of your Erasmus+ grant until this document is emailed to us.
- If you are studying abroad, your Online Learning Agreement lists all of the courses you are taking at the host university. It must be approved and signed by the Erasmus+ coordinator there. The OLA enables students going on exchange to enter their course selection on a European Commission digital platform. More information, followed by an invitation to create an account and log in to the platform, will be sent to you before you leave. The OLA must be completed and submitted at the beginning of your exchange for the first instalment of your Erasmus+ grant to be paid.
- You need to familiarise yourself with the conditions for passing your third year (course selection, majors) before you complete your Online Learning Agreement: see the validation procedure.
- If you are doing an internship abroad in Europe, the training contract must be completed and signed by you and the host organisation.
- The certificate of attendance, or certificate of internship, is a key document as it confirms the dates of your Erasmus mobility. If you do not return it at the end of your exchange or internship, the second instalment of your grant will not be paid.
Note: You must complete the steps listed above as promptly as possible. If we do not receive the necessary documents, we will contact you at your Sciences Po email address to rectify the situation. If we do not hear from you after two reminders, you will be removed from the Erasmus+ Programme list and will not receive your grant.
If you decide to decline your Erasmus+ grant, please let us know as soon as possible.

Incoming Erasmus+ exchange students who need their Erasmus+ documents to be signed can send them to centreeurope.daie@sciencespo.fr, or come to the Europe Centre at 9 rue de la Chaise (1st floor), 75007 Paris, during opening hours (Monday to Friday from 10am to 12.30pm).
