Stereotypes, self-image concerns, and job search behavior

Descriptif du projet :

Pôle emploi is developing a new service for job seekers at risk of self-censorship in the labor market. The main goal of the new service is to reduce the impact of stereotypes that restrict job seekers’ job search behavior. A component of the service is the development of a digital app, designed to make job seekers realize that they may have unconscious biases and stereotypes about employers or themselves that lead to a suboptimal level/direction of job search effort. This support solution, which also involves counselors and psychologists to accompany the job seekers’ use of the app, aims to improve job seekers’ self-image and reduce the impact of discrimination in the labor market. The project is designed in three steps. 1) A lab experiment in which we randomize content and track job search behavior and feelings related to self-censorship. 2) A pilot field experiment in which we randomize participants among counselor-targeted job seekers who benefit from the digital app + psychological support at the agency. 3) Once the service is fully developed, a large-scale randomized evaluation of the impact of the new service in three French regions.
