Giovanni Laino is associate professor in Town Planning at the Department of Urban Design and Planning of the University of Naples Federico II. He is a former member of the pilot comittee of the European Programme "Quartiers en Crise" and vice president of the European Association of the "Regie du Quartiers".
Professor Laino is a consultant to the City of Naples and is involved in the implementation and evaluation of the Urban Programme of Naples, acting as a consultant on behalf of the municipality. He is planner and coordinator of projects for private non-profit corporations and local authorities. He has recently drafted and coordinated projects of social and urban upgrading co-financed by national authorities and the European Union.
He has published a book and several essays: recently, two papers, one on the European programmes of "integrated" regeneration, and another one on the participation processes in urban reclaiming. Among his research interests are the issues of migrants in Italy and in Napoli in particular.
He has taken part in several international seminars in France, Portugal and in many Italian cities, presenting reports and key-notes speeches. His main topics have been the integrated approach in regeneration programmes, and changes in planning and local governments.
He is a member of the editorial boards of DISP, the journal of Zurich Polytechnic, since 2006; CRU, Planning Rationality Critique, since its foundation in 1994; CRIOS, and Animazione Sociale since 2005.
