Bruno Dente is professor of Public Policy Analysis at Politecnico di Milano where he sits on the board of directors. He was also the founding chairman of the Centre for Public Administration and Public Policies of Politecnico and has been a research director in Public Policy Analysis at IRS (Istituto per la ricerca sociale), Milan.

His main areas of interest are: public administration and local government in comparative perspective and public policy analysis. Furthermore he has been involved in research on environmental policies, urban and metropolitan governance, administrative reform and public management.

He has acted as advisor to different Italian Ministers of Public administration.
His interest in evaluation research dates back from the 1980s and recently he has directed EU sponsored research exercises on the evaluation of the contribution of the local development approach to European cohesion policy and of capacity building policies.
