Research fields

The CRIS is developing cutting-edge research on social stratification and inequalities. Its research programme follows 3 main goals:

  • To measure and compare the evolution of social inequalities in France and in contemporary societies
  • To analyse the mechanisms of social inequalities at several levels
  • To contribute to the analysis of public policies

The empirical and comparative sociological approach of the OSC researchers applies to several major areas of social life:

- Urban inequalities and spatial segregation
- Sociodemographic dynamics, family evolution
- Gender, sexuality, disability
- Culture, lifestyle, digital practices
- Educational background and educational policies
- Mobility, migration, minorities, discrimination
- Socioeconomic inequalities, labor market, welfare state
- Life course and intergenerational inequalities
- Energy transition, climate change

LIEPP Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Evaluation of Public Policies

CRIS is a founding member of LIEPP, a platform created to develop the evaluation of public policies through an interdisciplinary scientific approach. (Labex, funded by the ANR as part of the Investments for the Future, then Sciences Po - Université Paris Cité partnership).
LIEPP is based on an innovative evaluative research approach, combining quantitative, qualitative and comparative methods, and combining a high level of scientific requirements with the concern for the dissemination and translation of research results among public actors.
Its research axis Educational Policies is co-directed by Lidia Panico.

MiDi - Migration and diversity

MiDi is a collective interdisciplinary initiative which brings together researchers from the different research centers of Sciences Po, around the issues of international migration and diversity.

Cities are back in town / Villes et Territoires

This program, in which several researchers from the laboratory participate, focuses on socio-economic aspects, governance and social inequalities in cities on several continents. Cross-cutting issues on security, mobility and risks are addressed.
