The Hub Joins Global AI Governance Leaders at OECD for the Athens Roundtable

On Monday, December 9, 2024, the PSIA Tech & Global Affairs Innovation Hub joined as a partner a selective group of global leaders for the 6th edition of the prestigious Athens Roundtable on AI and the Rule of Law, organized by The Future Society. This 6th edition, an official side-event “on the road to the AI Action Summit” set to happen in February, was exceptionally hosted at OECD Headquarters in Paris, under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

As a proud partner of this edition, alongside UNESCO, France’s AI Action Summit, the AI & Society Institute, CNNum, and Make.org, the Hub was represented by Constance de Leusse (Senior Advisor) and Pierre Noro (Advisor), who participated as afternoon speakers in a roundtable dedicated to the presentation of the key takeaways from the global consultation for the AI Action Summit, and the role of civil society in AI governance. The findings and suggested deliverables, analyzed and summarized by the Hub's team, received an enthusiastic reception from AI Action Summit special envoy Anne Bouverot, alongside thematic envoys

Henri Verdier and Roxanne Varza, as well as the audience. They were recognized as an essential input to the upcoming AI Action Summit and a contribution to the inclusivity and legitimacy of this potential milestone in AI governance.

The full report detailing the results of both the public consultation and the experts and civil society organizations surveys, with a general analysis realized by the Hub's team, is available on our website.

This full-day high-stakes event was also the opportunity to join a remarkable lineup of global AI leaders, policymakers, and civil society representatives. The Hub team engaged with experts at the nexus of tech, policy, and international relations, such as officials from OECD, UNESCO, members of the European Parliament, European Commission officers, ambassadors, and civil society organizations from across the globe. They also shared insights with prominent figures in the AI research community, like Jack Clark (co-founder of Anthropic) and Stuart Russell (UC Berkeley).

The Athens Roundtable provided a critical platform ahead of France’s AI Action Summit in February 2025 for fostering multistakeholder AI governance and aligning strategies towards ensuring AI safety, fairness, auditability, inclusivity, and trustworthiness. The Hub’s active role in its organization and in the conversation it enabled reflects its commitment to build bridges between actors and to facilitate innovative international policymaking on emerging technologies.
