Annie Jafalian

Academic advisor

Annie Jafalian joined PSIA as an academic advisor in October 2023 pursuant to twenty years of experience in managing research and training programs in political science, international relations and security studies. 

Before joining PSIA, Annie served as deputy director of the Studies and Research Department at the Institute for Advanced National Defence Studies (IHEDN, Paris), a public institution under the remit of the French Prime Minister. She had previously held a number of positions at the University of Lyon, mainly those of academic coordinator and lecturer. Prior to her work at the university, Annie was a research fellow at the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS, Paris), a French think-tank, where she oversaw the Caucasus and Caspian Sea areas. 

Annie holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toulouse. After specializing on border conflicts and wars around Armenia, she has enlarged the scope of her research to cover security, energy and foreign policies from the Caucasus to Central Asia. Annie has edited, published or coordinated four books (by Bruylant, Universalis, Ashgate and La documentation française), published fifteen articles (the last one in the journal Etudes internationales) and given forty lectures in France and abroad.
