AIRE Award for Environmental Student Research 2023-2024

Objective

L’Atelier Interdisciplinaire de Recherches sur l’Environnement (Interdisciplinary Research Workshop on the Environment), [AIRE] is an initiative linked to the Institute for Environmental Transformations, which brings together the Sciences Po environmental research community across disciplines.

As part of its ambition to further develop the link between education and environmental research in the humanities and social sciences, AIRE launches the second edition of the Award for environmental student research. The award aims at acknowledging and disseminating the best research master thesis written during the 2023-2024 academic year by graduate students from across Sciences Po schools, and to encourage them to embark on this path during their studies. The winner(s) will be awarded a prize and offered the possibility to disseminate their work on the Institute for environmental transformations’ website.

Conditions for Eligibility

Applicants will have presented a master’s thesis in one of Sciences Po’s Graduate schools during the academic year 2023-2024, on a topic addressing environmental, climate, or ecological issues.

Students need to have submitted and defended their thesis before applying. Only the master theses having obtained a grade higher than or equal to 16/20 will be taken into consideration. The master thesis can be written in French or in English.

Conditions for Eligibility

Candidates will submit their application to the following address: aire@sciencespo.fr, until Friday June 14, 2024. The application file will include:

  • The master’s thesis
  • An English or French summary of less than 500 words
  • A Curriculum Vitae
  • A transcript indicating the grade and comments by the thesis defense committee

Applications will be treated in full confidentiality. Late submissions will not be considered.

Attribution of the Prize

An interdisciplinary committee composed of Sciences Po faculty members will assess all applications. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their work in an AIRE seminar session in September 2024. Following these presentations, the committee will award the prize to the most outstanding contributions at the following seminar session in October 2024. The committee will be particularly attentive to:

  • The interest of the research question
  • The methodology and quality of data and sources
  • The clarity of the demonstration
  • The quality of the presentation

The award aims at encouraging innovation and interdisciplinarity in environmental research.
