The Paris School of International Affairs is honoured to announce that the inaugural lesson for the Class of 2022 will be delivered by Ms Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor, International Criminal Court.

Enrico Letta, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs, will introduce the inaugural lecture. After her presentation, Fatou Bensouda will discuss with the students. Antoine Bernard, faculty member at the Paris School of International Affairs and a human rights, international justice and NGOs renowned expert and practitioner, will moderate the discussion.
Dr Fatou Bensouda is the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, having been elected in 2011 by consensus by the Assembly of States Parties. She is the first woman to assume the position. Under her leadership, she has greatly reinforced the capacity of her Office through a number of strategic and managerial initiatives and expanded her Office’s activities to cover 13 investigations, and nine active preliminary examinations in conflicts around the world. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, and listed by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, by Foreign Policy as one of the “Leading Global Thinkers” (2013) & by Jeune Afrique as one of 50 African women who, by their actions & initiatives in their respective roles, advance the African continent (2014 & 2015). Prosecutor Bensouda is firmly committed to gender equality, cultivating a gender perspective/gender awareness and breaking gender barriers in the workplace. In 2018, she joined the eminent roster of International Gender Champions.
A human rights, international justice and NGOs renowned expert and practitioner, Antoine Bernard is Reporters Without Borders (RSF)'s Senior Advisor on International strategic litigation and Senior Fellow with the Institute on Advanced Judicial Studies (IHEJ). He holds leadership positions in the World Movement for Democracy, the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression and La Maison des Femmes de Saint Denis, and serves as a jury of the French Republic Simone Veil Prize for Gender Equality. He previously led the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) as its CEO and Reporters Without Borders as its deputy Director General. He joined SciencesPo's Paris School of International Affairs from its launch in 2010 and teaches especially on the Role of NGOs in human rights protection and strategic litigation for international crimes.
The Inaugural Lesson is a long-standing tradition, whereby each new PSIA class is addressed by, and then has the chance to engage with, an important public figure.
