PSIA is honored to welcome Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, a Sciences Po alumni, to discuss his views on current events and his vision for the country.

As Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre has navigated complex geopolitical challenges and is a prominent leader known for his commitment to dialogue, negotiation, and multilateralism. Whether addressing climate change, conflict resolution, or humanitarian crises, his vision extends beyond national borders. He has a strong dedication to contribute to stability in regions facing turmoil, and is very committed to aligning policies with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Jonas Gahr Støre became Prime Minister in 2021. He has been Leader of the Labour Party since 2014, and has previously served on the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, and the Enlarged Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

Between 2005 and 2012, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and then as Minister of Health and Care Services until 2013.  He has held numerous other senior positions in the civil service and humanitarian organisations.

Prior to a political career, Mr Støre underwent naval officer training at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy in Bergen. He studied for a degree in political science, specialising in history and social economics, at Sciences Po, Paris.
