Global Terrorism Index 2025: Measuring the Impact of Terrorism
About this event
14 April 2025 from 17:30 until 19:00
Claude Érignac Amphitheatre
13 rue de l'Université, 75007, ParisPSIA hosted the presentation of the latest Global Terrorism Index (GTI) with Serge Stroobants, Director Europe and the MENA region, Institute for Economics and Peace.
GTI 2025, which is based on the leading global dataset on terrorist activity, provides a comprehensive summary of the recent developments within the broader context of global trends and patterns in terrorism over the last decade.
In 2024, the number of countries experiencing at least one terrorist incident increased from 58 to 66, the most countries affected since 2018. It also saw more countries (45) reporting a higher impact from terrorism, than those (34) reporting improvement. In short, terrorism remains a persistent global threat.
Dr Christina Schori Liang, PSIA Adjunct Faculty and Head of Counterterrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy then provided an overview of the 21st-century warfare tactics being used in the Russia-Ukraine war, offering new insights into the strategies that terrorists may adopt in the future, particularly in relation to drones, 3D printing, and AI.
