>Despite its universal value, democracy is far from having won the battle of politics. Authoritarianism and non-respect of human rights continue to exist on all continents, including Europe, as the example of Belarus demonstrates. More than ever, the democratization of the world calls for comparison. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is a leading actor in favor of democracy in her country.

With special guest: Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, leader of the democratic opposition in Belarus

Professor and translator of English, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is Sergei Tikhanovsky's wife imprisoned for his opposition to the Belarus regime. Following her husband's arrest, she ran for the presidential election against Lukashenko. She contested the reelection of the Belarus president because of strong electoral fraud. She is now a refugee in Lithuania where she leads the Belarusian democratic opposition.

Christian Lequesne is professor of political science at Sciences Po and was the director of the Center for International Research (CERI). He is also the former director of CEFRES in Prague and was LSE-Sciences Po Alliance Professor at LSE. He is the co-editor of the European Review of International Studies. His current research focuses on the European Union's external action and the sociology of diplomatic practices. His recent publications include La puissance par l’image. Les Etats et leur diplomatie publique (Presses de Sciences Po 2021), The Member States of the European Union (with Simon Bulmer eds, Oxford University Press, 2020), Ethnographie du Quai d'Orsay.
