Matteo, Administrator (JPT) at the Council of the European Union in the Budget and Cohesion Unit (DG ECOFIN)

Coming from Italy, Matteo Ronga has graduated from International Economic Policy. He currently works at the Council of the European Union in the Budget and Cohesion Unit (DG ECOFIN) in Brussels as an administrator JPT (JPT).

What are your main responsibilities?

I work on many economic and financial aspects of the EU Budget. This involves attending meetings with representatives from the 27 Member States and supporting the work of the rotating Presidency.

What is the most fascinating part of your job?

It's an incredibly interesting job, as I get to follow how the EU tackles new challenges and works towards its long-term goals. I was very happy to return to the Council in September, as I had already completed a traineeship at the Council of the European Union during my third semester at SciencesPo.

This experience was incredibly useful as it helped me to better understand what I wanted to do after university, sharpened my understanding of the EU decision-making process and gave me first-hand experience within an EU institution.

How did you prepare for this job?

My Master's at SciencesPo was very useful in preparing me for the future. It didn't only help me to clarify my career aspirations but also provided ad hoc courses, especially in the European Studies concentration, which enhanced my understanding of European affairs and EU policies. In addition, the multicultural environment at SciencesPo prepared me well for working in an international environment such as the Council.

What advice would you give to current students?

For current students, I would encourage them to stay curious and motivated and to take advantage of all the opportunities that SciencesPo offers, including courses, conferences and career events.
