Equitable and Sustainable IT
Environmentally sustainable information technologies have become a research topic with utmost importance because of the “environmental crisis” that we are facing today. As computer scientists and engineers work on the energy efficiency and biodegradability of the products they design, the firms try to align this development with their economic interests and the incentives that are in place. In this regard, it is up to the policy makers and lawyers to design the right policies and regulations that could foster the green transition.
In this dossier, the Chair investigates the relationship between the governance and regulation of digital technologies and the environmental crises by looking into the relevant policies, regulations, international conventions, and studies.
