Covid-19 information

In Fall 2021, in-person classes resumed at Sciences Po. While the institution continues to closely follow the global health situation and local public health measures, we look forward to once again opening our doors to students from around the world. In order to help participants organize their plans, please find a summary of current Covid-19 regulations impacting travel and activities in France.

Updated March 24th, 2022.

TRAVEL TO FRANCE

France’s current Covid travel regulations depend on your vaccination status and your country of residence.

Countries have been classified based on health indicators. The lists of countries may be updated as the epidemic situation evolves. You can find a current list of country classifications on the Ministry of the Interior website.

To date, the classification is as follows:

  • "Green" countries/territories: countries/territories in which no active circulation of the virus is observed and no variants of concern are identified. These are the European countries plus Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Honduras, Kuwait, New Zealand, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay and Vanuatu.
  • "Orange" countries/territories: countries/territories where there is active circulation of the virus in controlled proportions. These are all countries/territories not included in the "green" list.

*Travellers are considered fully vaccinated in the following cases:

  • 7 days after receiving a second dose of other vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (Pfizer/Comirnaty, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Vaxzevria/Covishield).
  • 28 days after receiving one dose of Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.
  • For persons who have received all the required doses of a WHO-licensed vaccine not approved by the European Medicines Agency, 7 days after receiving an additional dose of an EMA-approved mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna).
  • Since February 1st, 2022, in order to continue to be considered as fully vaccinated, persons aged eighteen or over wishing to enter the national territory must have received a dose of complementary messenger RNA vaccine no later than 9 months following the injection of the last required dose.

Read our brochure Traveling to France during Covid (PDF, 368 KB) for a summary of travel regulations for vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers.

Additionally, please consult the websites of the Ministry of the Interior or France Diplomacy for the most recent Covid travel information.

Please also remember to check standard travel and visa requirements for travel to France. Participants who need a visa should apply for a short-stay visit for tourism.

THE SITUATION AT SCIENCES PO

Sciences Po closely follows the latest government health directives. In-person classes have resumed and the health pass (proof of vaccination or negative Covid test results) is not required for access to teaching, educational activities and libraries. Barrier measures must be strictly respected, and it is compulsory to wear a mask in the interior spaces of the establishment.

Sciences Po has a contract tracing system in place for students who test positive for Covid-19 or who have come into contact with someone who has tested positive. The Sciences Po Health Centre is also available to assist students.

You can find current information about Covid-19 procedures at Sciences Po on our Covid-19 FAQ.

THE SITUATION IN PARIS AND IN FRANCE

The positive development of the health situation has allowed an easing of the restrictions in force:

  • It is no longer compulsory to wear a mask outdoors.
  • Capacity limits have been lifted in establishments open to the public (cinemas, restaurants, shops, etc.). A health pass is required to enter those public spaces.
  • Festivals and standing concerts resumed on February 17th, 2022, according to a dedicated health protocol.
  • The health pass is required in all establishments and public places (restaurants and bars, cultural and entertainment institutions, sports facilities, trains and airports, etc.).

The French health pass allows you to generate a QR code that includes either your proof of vaccination (permanent with respect to booster shots) or the negative results of a Covid test (temporary, only valid for 24 hours).

If you were vaccinated in a Member State of the European Union, Albania, Andorra, Faroe Islands, the Holy See, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Morocco, North Macedonia, Norway, Panama, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom: Your country issues an EU Digital COVID Certificate. You do not need to convert your vaccination certificate.

If you were vaccinated in another country, you can apply to convert your vaccination certificate to a French health pass. Students participating in the Summer or Winter Schools should follow the instructions for non-student foreign nationals. The foreign student procedure is reserved for long-term students traveling on student visas.

If you were vaccinated in another country, you can apply directly at a pharmacy upon your arrival in France to convert your vaccination certificate to a French health pass. The list of pharmacies offering such a service is available here. Students participating in the Summer School should follow the instructions for non-student foreign nationals. The foreign student procedure is reserved for long-term students traveling on student visas.
