Life at Sciences Po during the University Programmes

Paris before, during and after class

The opportunity to spend a month in the “City of Light” is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Summer School. Throughout their stay, Summer School students have the opportunity to get acquainted with Paris’ legendary neighbourhoods like Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, or the Marais…as well as to discover many others they may never have heard of before: Buttes-Chaumont, Butte aux Cailles, Sentier, and the canals of the northern arrondissements. With an excellent transportation system, any destination in Paris is a mere bus or metro ride away. On weekends, day trips to nearby sites such as the Château de Versailles or Champagne tasting in and around the city of Reims are excellent opportunities to cross over Paris city limits and still be back in time for dinner.

Summer events

In the summer, Paris plays host to some of Europe’s top events such as Paris Plage, Rock en Seine and the finish line of Le Tour de France.
Shopping lovers can take advantage of the "soldes", the June and July sales that occur in stores all over the city. And of course, the summer months are the perfect time when the canals, riverbanks and parks of Paris come alive with endless picnics, outdoor cinema and strolls amongst friends.

Cultural visits and activities

Students studying on campus have the chance to experience a multicultural environment with a variety of social activities and visits of Parisian landmarks.

Activities fall into two types:

  • Open activities are available to all students of the programme, at no additional cost
  • Optional activities are available to students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sign-up is required, as is an additional fee, with Sciences Po students receiving considerable group discounts at major tourist attractions

Open activites in 2024

Discover Paris from its best vantage point, the Seine River! As part of Orientation Day, all Summer School students will have a chance to take a river cruise with the Vedettes du Pont Neuf. You’ll learn about some of Paris’s most famous landmarks, from the Musée du Louvre to the Eiffel Tower, all while kicking back your feet and enjoying the sunshine!

The Summer School's Speaker Series is an opportunity for participants from both academic tracks to interact with a variety of public and academic figures from the Sciences Po community and French society. These conferences allow participants to discuss key issues with experts and thus further their understanding of France and Europe.

Join our Summer School team for a picnic in Science Po's garden every Friday at lunchtime. This is a great opportunity to meet students from outside your classes and practice your French language skills with our Summer School interns.

Fancy a drink and a pre-dinner snack? Join our interns and your classmates to enjoy the sunshine after class. You can have a chat, play some games, and let’s face it, what is more French than an apéro hour on a summer evening?!
