Giovanni Roggia

The Bachelor's and Master's theses focus on contemporary political history, with a particular emphasis on diplomatic, cultural and institutional relations between several European countries, and especially between France, Italy and Eastern Europe (with a specific view on the theme of nationalism). This research was supported by intensive work in Italian and French archives and a six-month internship at the François Mitterrand Institute.

The doctoral thesis conceived at the University of Rome Tre and the Centre d'Histoire de Sciences Po proposes an innovative approach to the study of French-Italian relations in the 1970s and 1980s. Using a bilateral perspective and the methodology of histoire croisée, it will attempt to deconstruct the various political, institutional, diplomatic, legal and cultural aspects surrounding the question of the reception in France of Italian fugitives of the Years of Lead.

The subject will be studied using unpublished primary and secondary sources conserved in both countries. This study will help to renew the historiography on the subject (which is still very incomplete) and to clarify certain issues that are still troubling the contemporary political debate between the two countries.
