Biography

Ophélie Jouan is an Art historian graduated from the École du Louvre in Paris. Her research focuses on Nazi spoliations in France during the Second World War and on the “Fine Arts Officers” who recovered art works in Germany and Austria from 1944. As such, she dedicated a biography to the résistante of the Jeu de Paume museum, Rose Valland, based on information newly uncovered in her personal papers and at the National Archives (ed. Department of Isère, 2019).

She also worked with the Diplomatic Archives (French Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Association for the Memory of Rose Valland on the improvement of their archival inventories relating to the résistante. As curator and scientific advisor of several exhibitions, she lately worked on the one dedicated by the Musée Dauphinois (Grenoble) to Rose Valland in 2019-2020, Rose Valland, en quête de l’art spolié [Rose Valland, in search of looted art].
