LabSem (General Laboratory Seminar) on Authoritarian Variations
About
Labsem is getting a facelift, starting again in October 2024 with a series of eight sessions on the theme of “Authoritarian Variations”.
As part of the ‘Jeudis du CERI’ series, the Labsem is intended to be a meeting place within the laboratory, as well as a showcase for our research work.
From the academic year 2024-2025 onwards, Labsem aims to be a forum for reflection at the convergence of comparative political sociology and inter- and trans-national relations, focusing on contemporary authoritarian dynamics, logics, fields and configurations. As in music, in the humanities and social sciences, variation is a compositional technique that explores diversity by mobilising various themes, methods and theories, perspectives, scales and temporalities, preferably in an interconnected way. Labsem will be held in French or English, according to the choice of participants.
Each two-hour session will be freely devised by the speakers, who are invited to incorporate innovative thematic and interdisciplinary approaches, even including artistic forms or crossovers from the experimental sciences. This work could also serve as a testing ground for the themes to be explored in greater depth at CERI's biennial colloquium, and could thus form the basis for the renewal of the laboratory's lines of research.
