Studying the role of science during/in treaty negotiations: The marine biodiversity case

  • Speaker: Alice Vadrot(University of Vienna)
  • Discussant: Kari de Pryck (University of Cambridge)

Summary:

In this first episode of the Environment and International Relations seminar series, Alice Vadrot from the University of Vienna discusses how governments use and contest scientific and technical knowledge in the specific case of intergovernmental debates on marine biodiversity. She presented her ERC Starting Grant project MARIPOLDATA, and explained how she utilises the data collected through collaborative event ethnography (CEE) when attending international conferences in order to analyse inequalities related to the distribution of scientific and technical knowledge and how they shape the positioning of governments in international negotiations.
