Holds degrees in sociology, economics, Chinese and a Ph.D. from the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). Visiting professor at Renda University (2000-2002). Was based in Beijing as scientific advisor to the Antenne des Sciences Sociales et Humaines, Tsinghua University, before rejoining CERI in July 2011.
Works on the evolution of political relations in China at the local level from the perspective of social policies and popular opposition.
