Depuis 1945, nombre de conflits internes ou internationalisés présentent une forte dimension religieuse. Même si la religion n’est jamais la seule explication des violences, le facteur religieux peut intensifier les différends, et lorsque la religion divise les peuples, la violence et l’intensité des conflits augmentent. Cependant l’impact de la religion sur le développement des conflits est très difficile à prévoir. Cette difficulté s’explique par l’extrême complexité de l’objet « religion », qui renvoie à la fois à des systèmes de croyances, à diverses structures sociales, et à des valeurs et pratiques en constante évolution.

Elise Féron (PhD, Docent) est chercheuse au Tampere Peace Research Institute (Finlande). Elle est aussi professeure invitée à l’Université catholique de Louvain (Belgique), à l’Académie diplomatique d’Erevan (Arménie) et à l’Université Lumière de Bujumbura (Burundi). Ses recherches portent sur les conflits communautaires, les diasporas et les dimensions de genre dans les conflits. Elle est l’auteure de nombreuses publications sur ces sujets.
