Corneel Weyers is a Belgian researcher and policy analyst with a strong academic and professional background in international relations, European policy, and economic development. He holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Science in Economics from Ghent University, where he focused on macroeconomics, energy policy, and development economics; and a Master of Arts in European Studies from LUISS University in Rome, where he specialized in EU institutions, foreign policy, and public policy.

Currently, Corneel is pursuing a PhD at Sciences Po Paris as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie IDEoPOP doctoral network. His research examines how populism challenges diplomacy and foreign policymaking, under the supervision of Professors Christian Lequesne and Leslie Wehner.

His academic path has been complemented by international work experiences, including internships at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York, where he contributed to climate and energy policy research, and at Ecorys in Brussels, supporting European Commission projects linked to the Green Deal and environmental governance. These roles deepened his interest in international politics and provided hands-on experience in high-level policy environments.

Beyond academia, Corneel has been active in youth diplomacy and civic engagement. He served as President and Finance Deputy President of the United Nations Youth Association (UNYA) in Flanders, led a podcast series on decolonization in Ghent, and helped coordinate summer schools on sexual and reproductive health rights in collaboration with the ANSER network.

His interests lie at the intersection of global governance, democratic resilience, and international politics. He is particularly passionate about connecting academic research with practical policy work to address complex global challenges.
