Minority Rights On The Ground. LGBTQ Parents And The Law From One Continent To Another

The Institut universitaire de France has selected the Émilie Biland-Curinier's project (2019-2024) : "Minority Rights On The Ground. LGBTQ Parents And The Law From One Continent To Another".

Summary

Major changes are occurring in the policies that target intimacy. The expansion of LGBT rights plays a main part in this process. However, these rights are incomplete, controversial, and they vary a lot from one country to another. At the crossroads between socio-legal studies and gender & sexuality studies, this project analyses how non-heterosexual parents relate to law and to courts and how lawyers and judges work with them. It will assess improvements and inertia in the inequalities between LGBTQ and straight parents, as well as in-group hierarchies among sexual minorities. To that purpose, field studies are being conducted in three countries (France, Canada, and Chile); they will provide an insight into national dynamics of legal inclusion, in comparison with transnational trends.
