The History Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Modern European History, to begin September 1, 2021. A PhD in History is required. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarship, teaching, and department and university service, and must have an active research agenda. Candidates’ research fields must focus on 19th and/or 20th-century European History.

The search committee will be looking for teaching experience, as well as the ability to develop new undergraduate and graduate courses. The teaching load is 2-2 and includes teaching, advising, and supervising masters theses in the graduate program. The ability to teach undergraduate and/ or graduate courses in one or more of the following areas would complement existing department strengths: globalism, political history, environmental history, history of science or medicine, race, and/or LGBTQ history.

Un tournant numérique pour l’histoire économique ?

En histoire, s’il y a bien un champ pour lequel la question des transformations numériques de la discipline se pose avec une certaine acuité, c’est bien celui de l’histoire économique. Mises en séries de sources hétérogènes, catégorisations anachroniques, pertinence des approches de longue durée : les débats relatifs aux usages de la quantification y furent vifs, précoces… Ils se soldèrent surtout, dès les années 1980/1990, par un reflux et/ou une marginalisation des approches quantitatives. Les mutations opérées au cours des vingt dernières années, généralement considérées comme un « tournant » voire une « révolution » numérique, changent-elles la donne ? Une nouvelle vague de quantification est-elle à l’œuvre ? L’histoire économique a-t-elle connu une transformation numérique ?

Compte-tenu des mesures de distanciation physique toujours en vigueur à Sciences Po, la présentation se fera en ligne sur la plate-forme Zoom. L'inscription au webinaire est obligatoire.
